Brown Bag Raffle night

Every March we have our Brown Bag Raffle. This is a big money maker for the guild. It's a member only event but members are allowed to bring a guest. We take donations from the members and sell raffle tickets for $ .25. Members drop tickets into the bags in front of the items they want for a chance to win. Some members walk away with lots of items at the end of the night. It's always a fun night for all. Items raffled off include fabric, kits, notions, rulers, thread, unfinished items, patterns, batting, cutting items, and other items found in someone's sewing room.

Retreats

Every year we plan a guild retreat. We have been going to Patty's last resort for many years now, but with it closing, we will be looking for another location. We are planning a winter retreat at Red Boot Retreat for 2025 that has been filling up quickly. Everyone always has a wonderful time at our retreats. We have raffles and do mini classes each afternoon. It's also a great time to get to know other members. There's lots of laughs as well.

Sew Days

Who doesn't Love a Sew day? We have two types of Sew Days. One is a once a month sew day at a local church. We meet during the week so we can spend a day sewing or working on a project that has been prearranged. The other is when Red Boot Retreat lets us use their facility for the day. This allows us 30 people to go and sew for a full day. Everyone enjoys sew days so much and gets so much done even with all the socializing. It gives people a chance to see what we are working on and share techniques as well. At the end of the day, if someone finishes a project, we take pictures and share them on our facebook page.

Mystery Quilts

Every year we have a mystery quilt that one of our members designs herself. The clues come out in October and the last one is in May. We do the big reveal at our August meeting. No one is allowed to share their finished product until then. It's fun to see the color combinations everyone comes up with for their quilts. The photo to the left is the designer of our mystery quilts for the past 3 plus years. This she will be her last year.

Quilts of Valor

Every June we have a Quilts of Valor wrapping ceremony where we get to honor those who have served our country in the armed forces. Guild members make quilts for these service members, then we wrap them, and present them with a certificate. Vietnam vets also receive a special pin that is presented to them by another service member. To get on the list for a quilt, you can go to the QOV website and register at QOV.org and answer some questions about the service member you wish to have wrapped. If you want our guild to wrap them, then send us their name and the number the site gives you at the end and we will pull their information and add it to our list for our next ceremony.

Next Step Womens Center

Next Step is an organization that we support by donating 100 baby quilts to throughout the year. The quilts are made by our members, sometimes with a theme through the year, or on a person's free time. We also make donations with toys and diapers and other necessary items that the organization needs.

Next Step Womens Center helps expecting parents with prenatal treatments, ultrasounds, parenting classes, pregnancy tests and counseling. Along with other services. They are a wonderful resource to the community and a safe place to go when you need help and support.
